Adding gadgets

Getting your feet wet with your "first blog", writing a more serious blog about "blogging in education" articles, and commenting of others' blogs, you should be ready to explore the dashboard or setting, add and edit gadgets, experiment with adding pictures and videos and just plain decorating and personalizing your blog with design and functionality.

What features will help your ease of use of the blog? What features make you feel like this is your home?

  1. Gadgets I've just added: Search bar, videos (linked to "teachers," "history," & "literature." The software made this easy to do.

  2. I just added fun gadgets like the poll taking, pictures, the bloggers logo, and the page navigation. I just wanted to see what it was like. When I create a youtube channel or find videos I'd like to share, I'm sure I will add that gadget too! I think that being able to customize your blog as far as what you have on it as well as the placement of each item makes me feel comfortable and more homely. One thing I really appreciate that makes blogging easier for me is the updated list of blogs posted by those I am following on my dashboard! Rather than having to go out and find everyone, I can see what everyone has been up to on my homepage! :)

  3. Well, I've added a video--the video bar seems to be mostly about channels rather than specific videos, so I've embedded one in my posting. Like Tori, I'll probably wait until I begin with my own YouTube Channel before I add that gadget. I added the blog list (the ones I follow--I like having that list there, though I may try to change it to the left like it is here). I also added a Page views counter and a few other things. I like the idea of being able to add a survey or post a video or podcast for the students to view.

I suppose my question is still about privacy. I would only use blogs as a way for students to present their findings, assignments, etc. to the world, which leaves a lot of the class still in a shell like Moodle. I'm not sure how to change that or even if we should.
